The reviews are nothing less than glowing. It’s on my short list of must-sees. I’m stunned to see these headlines today!
‘Bomb, ‘flop’ and ‘thud’ are the operative words. Why?
Variety says the film costs $30 million to make and “at least as much to market.” It needs to do at least $120 million to break even.
They cite three reasons that it’s failed as far as $ goes:
“Foreign prospects seem bleak.” Really? There’s iEverything overseas… pods, phones, pads.
“It lacks a major leading star.” Which is so much better. Do we really want to be thinking ‘Batman’ while watching Steve? (Christian Bale was originally cast)
“it’s dialogue driven.” Ohhhhhhhh…. I get it.
Not enough explosions.
Too bad.
