If there was anybody who could coax Goldie Hawn into starring in a film 14 years after being retired it would be Amy Schumer. Schumer first met Hawn on an airplane several years ago where Schumer first pitched the idea for a film starring the both of them. “I met [Hawn] on an airplane a couple of years ago and told her there’s a movie I really want to make with her. And she was very nice. ‘OK, honey.’ She probably thought I was a psycho. ‘OK, crazy person.’ Then I’d meet her at different things, saying, ‘We’re making this movie together,’ and I think, eventually, some people got in her ear and told her I wasn’t crazy, that I make things.”
Hawn will be the mother of Schumer’s character, who in the film breaks up with her boyfriend before an unrefundable trip to South America. So it will be a mother/daughter adventure, which Hawn is excited for. She told Entertainment Tonight, “We are on quite a romp together, the two of us—in the jungle! It’s just going to be a blast!”
What exactly was it that drew Hawn out of retirement after not starring in a film since 2002? “It had to be funny and it had to be with the right person. I did a lot of stuff, but if it can’t live up to the expectation, it’s not worth doing.”
The film, which still does not have a title, is expected to be released May 2017.
